last reminder: SXSW GRCA day party!

Wanna win a guitar signed by Joan Jett?! Then come to the SXSW GRCA day party! (image courtesy of leftatthealtar.wordpress.com)

Hey everyone – I wanted to give you one last reminder that the SXSW Girls Rock Camp Austin day party is tomorrow at Cafe Mundi starting at noon.

Since I’ll be there all day tomorrow – helping set up/take down and co-interviewing the artists and acts on the bill with Alyx (from feministmusicgeek) – I’m calling it an early weekend.

If you’re in town and have some free time on Friday, come and see us. We’ll have swag from the movie The Runaways and you could win a guitar signed by Joan Jett. Plus we’ll be selling GRCA merchandise like hoodies, t-shirts, and totes. All the proceeds benefit Girls Rock Austin, allowing this awesome non-profit organization to provide full scholarships to girls who cannot afford to attend camp.

If you’re at all interested in the line-up – and/or maybe you’re unfamiliar with some of the acts – I urge to stop by the GRCA blog. We have great posts on Viv Albertine (scroll down on the homepage), Girl in a Coma, and Exene Cervenka – along with all the information you’d ever want to know about the day party.

Hope to see you there!

P.S. So I know they’re not playing the GRCA day party, but I love Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings (and Alyx and I often incorporate the group into our music history workshops). The band recently played the NPR showcase at Stubbs and the full concert is up online on the NPR Music site. If you can’t make it to any of the SXSW shows, this is the next best thing. Happy Weekend Everyone!
